Gossip: Man Utd eye Barca and Real stars amid Sancho shambles

SANCHO SHAMBLES RUMBLES ON FOR MAN UTD

There is some debate this morning whether Manchester United have or have not made an actual bid for Jadon Sancho. Either way, the Red Devils seem as far away as ever from landing their top target.

Sky Sports is reporting that United approached Borussia Dortmund with an offer worth £92.3million, with £73million to be paid up front and the rest in add-ons. Apparently, it was immediately rejected since Dortmund are sticking to their £108m valuation. But the Daily Mail suggests the bid was never made at all.

The story goes United held talks with intermediaries on Tuesday but the Red Devils are ‘worried about losing face and the backlash from fans if a formal bid is turned down’.

They already think you’re a massive whopper, Ed. Just do it.

CONFUSION OVER RED DEVILS’ DEMBELE DEAL

The Daily Mail says the Sancho alternative du jour is Ousmane Demebele – but United want the Barcelona winger on loan.

Sancho moved to Dortmund to replace Dembele three years ago when the Frenchman joined Barca for £96.8million. But Dembele has flopped hard at the Nou Camp.

The Dembele link is repeated elsewhere but AS says United’s interest could provide Barca with the capital they need to land Memphis Depay from Lyon. Apparently, Barca will accept anything above £54million for the 23-year-old.

UNITED LINKED WITH REAL STRIKER

AS also chucks United’s name into the mix around Luka Jovic.

United weren’t mentioned when AS went to press on Tuesday when it was reported that AC Milan, Inter and Roma had made moves to take the Real Madrid striker on loan. But steadily through the day, as our friends at Sport Witness observed, the Spanish outlet grew more confident of the Red Devils’ interest.

CITY TARGET TWO LEFT-BACKS

Across Manchester, City are getting sh*t done. The record signing of Ruben Dias was confirmed last night but still Pep Guardiola wants to spend more on his defence.

The Daily Mail says Pep wants a left-back and his desire to bring Bayern Munich star David Alaba to the Etihad remains undiminished. But Ajax defender Nicolas Tagliafico is also a target.

Guardiola might not get either unless he can shift one of the left-backs already on his books. City are looking to sell Aleks Zinchenko before they consider a concrete move for Alaba or Tagliafico.

SPURS HAVE COMPETITION FOR SKRINIAR

Tottenham are also chasing a defender and they remain as keen as ever to land Milan Skriniar. Talks are ongoing with Inter, though it seems Spurs are still £10million short of meeting the Italians’ demands for £45million.

The Sun reckons Fulham are now in the hunt for Skriniar, which seems a little optimistic on the Cottagers’ part, however desperately they need a functioning centre-back.

Spurs could settle for taking Antonio Rudiger on loan from Chelsea though Frank Lampard downplayed that prospect last night after Chelsea were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Jose Mourinho’s side.
